Vote for Autumn Nations Series Try of Round 1

When the best teams in the world get together, sensational tries are almost guaranteed and that’s what we had in Round 1 of the Autumn Nations Series.

From Italy’s length-of-the-field try against Samoa, to Damian Penaud’s last-gasp match-winner for France against Australia, there were plenty of memorable moments.

Whittling it down to just four was far from easy but here are the four contenders.

Pierre Bruno – ITALY v Samoa

Italy played some superb rugby against Samoa and Pierre Bruno’s try is a thing of beauty.

In an electric team move, they went from their 22 to the Samoan try line straight from the kick-off, Stephen Varney finding Bruno, who put his foot down to help his side into a 17-0 lead.

Lalakai Foketi – France v AUSTRALIA

Australia gave their all at the Stade de France and it was typified by Foketi’s wonder score.

Antoine Dupont’s clever chip kick looked as though it might put Thomas Ramos in, but when the rebound fell to the Australians, they pounced.

From their own line, the ball was quickly shifted to Tom Wright on the wing. He got away from Penaud, raced away and in the end it was Foketi who got on the end of it to score.

Damian Penaud – FRANCE v Australia

Facing a surprise home defeat, France needed a late try to salvage victory – and that’s just what happened.

Matthieu Jalibert ghosted through a couple of tackles on a run from deep, then popping up again to float the ball out wide to Penaud.

He had all the space he needed, stepping inside Wright and then handing off Campbell to go over in the corner.

Emiliano Boffelli – England v ARGENTINA

If England finished the first half of their match at Twickenham on top, the opposite was true of the start of the second.

A first scrum penalty in their favour was followed by a monster kick for touch from Boffelli. And the winger was on the end of a stunning move from the resulting lineout.

It was a wonderful move as Montoya peeled off a potential maul before feeding Gonzalo Bertranou. The scrum-half spread the ball wide for Matias Moroni, who popped it out the back for Santiago Carreras to feed Boffelli, who raced over in the corner.
