Top 5 Ireland tries from the Autumn Nations Series

Ireland could not have wished for a better Autumn Nations Series as Andy Farrell’s men flexed their attacking muscle and scored several superb tries as a result.

The men in green finished their November campaign with a flawless record, winning all three matches as they beat Japan, New Zealand and Argentina in style.

And from James Lowe’s instinctive finishing to Bundee Aki’s cheeky sidestep, we’ve whittled down all of Ireland’s tries to the five best scores in the Autumn Nations Series.

James Lowe – Ireland v New Zealand

The moment when Ireland’s Autumn campaign really took off, James Lowe’s try against the country of his birth paved the way for the historic 29-20 victory over the New Zealand.

Ireland bolted out the gate with relentless energy in Dublin and as the 14th minute approached, Jamison Gibson-Park recycled the ball with the hosts just metres away from the try line.

Johnny Sexton, Bundee Aki and Hugo Keenan all got their hands on the ball before the latter sucked in the defenders and found Lowe, who dived in the corner under pressure.

Andrew Conway – Ireland v Japan

An early try had already settled any nerves Ireland might have been feeling in their Autumn Nations Series opener against the Brave Blossoms at the Aviva Stadium.

A second try followed on 11 minutes and was a sign of what was to come from Ireland’s attack in November as quick hands and neat offloading saw the home side surge up to the Japan 22.

Jamison Gibson-Park then dummied the pass and stabbed a precise diagonal grubber kick that bounced up perfectly for the onrushing Andrew Conway to collect and race over the whitewash.

Caelan Doris – Ireland v New Zealand

Named Player of the Series for his superb work in the back row for Ireland, Caelan Doris really came of age in an Ireland shirt during the Autumn Nations Series.

The highlight of the 23-year-old’s campaign came against New Zealand, putting in a Player of the Match performance which included scoring a sensational try just after the break.

Starting from a lineout, Bundee Aki and Ronan Kelleher crashed forward before Doris came round the corner and found a gap, stepping Codie Taylor and running in unopposed for Ireland’s third try.

Bundee Aki – Ireland v Japan

Ireland had only beaten Japan by eight points when they last met in the summer but Farrell’s side looked a completely different beast in their Autumn Nations Series encounter.

This was evidenced just before the hour mark with a wonderful team move, starting with Jamison Gibson-Park keeping the ball moving quickly from the breakdown before Johnny Sexton and Hugo Keenan joined in.

From there, Andrew Conway and Jack Conan showed unbelievable hands to unleash Aki down the right wing before the powerful centre stepped inside to dive over the whitewash.

James Lowe – Ireland v Japan

The last try on this list was Ireland’s first of the Autumn Nations Series and came inside the opening five minutes against the Brave Blossoms in Ireland’s 60-5 win.

Capitalising on an overlap down the blindside, Bundee Aki burst through a gap before shipping the ball to Jack Conan who delayed his offload to James Lowe perfectly.

It was then all about the Ireland winger from there, with the 29-year-old pinning his ears back to race down the touchline and slide over in the corner for the curtain-raising score.
