Top 5 France tries from the Autumn Nations Series

France delivered some of the most entertaining rugby of the Autumn Nations Series, scoring tries for fun as they defeated Argentina, Georgia and New Zealand.

From well-worked team moves to powerhouse breaks, Les Bleus showed their versatility in attack as they finished the November internationals with 12 tries overall.

And now the dust has settled on a flawless campaign for Fabien Galthié’s men, here are the top five France tries from the 2021 Autumn Nations Series.

Matthieu Jalibert – France v Georgia

All the talk about France before the Autumn Nations Series surrounded the mouth-watering prospect of a 10-12 axis featuring Matthieu Jalibert and Romain Ntamack.

And while the experiment did not quite pay off against Argentina, the duo linked up brilliantly a week later against Georgia to score Les Bleus’ second try in Bordeaux.

The ball was moved through the backs at speed after Cameron Woki’s lineout steal before Ntamack found Jalibert, who ignored his outside options to cut inside and over the whitewash.

Peato Mauvaka – France v Argentina

Argentina provided France with a stern opening test in the Autumn Nations Series, with Melvyn Jaminet ultimately the hero with 19 points from his boot in the 29-20 win.

But France still provided a slice of their trademark flair in the second half, scoring two of their best tries of the Autumn Nations Series – including this superb effort from Peato Mauvaka.

With ten minutes left to play, Jalibert showed his class as he caught Los Pumas napping by taking the ball into the 22 before deftly offloading to Mauvaka from the floor to put the French hooker in.

Damian Penaud – France v New Zealand

This one was all about Damian Penaud’s instinct and reading of the game as the France winger pounced to score the try that sealed a famous win over the All Blacks.

Only five points separated the two teams heading into the final 15 minutes, with Les Bleus back on the front foot thanks to THAT sensational Ntamack break from his own in-goal area.

New Zealand were looking to counter after turning the ball over but Penaud had other ideas, picking off David Havili’s pass perfectly for the interception to race over the whitewash.

Thibaud Flament – France v Argentina

The first of France’s two tries in this game raised the Stade de France to its feet.

Les Bleus found themselves trailing 10-9 as the 50-minute mark approached and after going through six phases, Antoine Dupont found Jalibert on his left in space.

From there, Jalibert took the ball towards the Argentina defensive line before offloading to the onrushing debutant lock Thibaud Flament who finished with aplomb.

Romain Ntamack – France v New Zealand

While Ntamack’s outrageous break grabbed most of the headlines in France’s win over New Zealand, his try in the early stages of the contest was also magnifique.

Les Bleus had already crossed the whitewash once and led 7-6 when Penaud made a searing break to get France to within ten metres of the New Zealand tryline.

The Ntamack counter-attack heard around the world

Crash ball from Gabin Villière was followed by Dupont recycling to Ntamack, who stepped off his right foot and inside the drift defence to storm over for a brilliant try.
