4th Dec 2021 Reading Time: 3 mins Share by Andy Baber New Zealand’s Autumn Nations Series was a rollercoaster ride but that didn’t stop the All Blacks from demonstrating their attacking ability with some superb tries. After beginning their campaign with wins over Wales and Italy, Ian Foster’s men suffered back-to-back defeats as Ireland and France rose to the occasion on the final two weekends. Even so, the All Blacks still finished their European tour with 19 tries in total, breaking the record for most international tries in a calendar year, and we have whittled those down to their top five from the Autumn Nations Series below. READ: Bryan Habana’s Team of the Series Will Jordan – New Zealand v Wales The All Blacks ran in seven tries against Wales as they briefly returned to No.1 in the world rankings and Will Jordan’s second-half effort was a moment of individual brilliance. The winger gathered a high ball just inside his own half on 53 minutes and after initially strolling forward, he spotted a gap, threw a dummy and put his head down. Having stormed through a hole in the line of red shirts, Jordan chipped and chased over a helpless Tomos Williams to score, taking his tally to 16 tries in 11 Test matches. Rieko Ioane – France v New Zealand For many onlookers the best game of the Autumn Nations Series, France’s thrilling 40-25 win over New Zealand had pretty much everything – including several spectacular tries. One of the best was scored by Rieko Ioane with 50 minutes on the clock, racing over the whitewash from inside his own half to get the All Blacks back into the game. It started with a Brodie Retallick turnover before the ball was flung out to Ioane, who drifted to the outside before diving inside through a gaping hole to sprint over the try line. Sevu Reece – Italy v New Zealand Italy made the All Blacks work hard in Rome before the visitors eventually prevailed 47-9 thanks to a second-half blitz on the second weekend of the Autumn Nations Series. That late try-fest was kicked off by a lovely finish from Sevu Reece, who sliced through the Azzurri defence just after the hour mark to put the game beyond Kieran Crowley’s side. A cheeky offload to Finlay Christie got New Zealand on the move before space opened up, allowing Reece to receive the ball and step on the gas for his side’s fourth try. Will Jordan – Ireland v New Zealand Ireland largely outplayed New Zealand as they triumphed 29-20 in Dublin but that did not stop Will Jordan once again providing a moment of magic for the visitors. Trailing 20-10 at the time and with only 20 minutes left on the clock, the All Blacks looked to move the ball quickly through the hands of their backs from deep inside their own half. What we learned from the 2021 Autumn Nations Series Jordan received the ball and chipped over the covering defender before David Havili picked it up and offloaded it back inside to the onrushing winger to stroll over the whitewash. 1️⃣0️⃣1️⃣ tries in 2021 🔥 A world record. pic.twitter.com/6bexi7kiAL — All Blacks (@AllBlacks) November 26, 2021 Sevu Reece – Wales v New Zealand Wales were right in the game with 61 minutes played, trailing by just 12 points, when the All Blacks showed their ruthless edge in the final quarter to pull away from the hosts. That period included a magical team try, finished by Sevu Reece. Jordie Barrett started it off with a delicate chip that allowed replacement winger Reece to latch on to the bouncing ball. Reece kept the ball alive with a pass from the floor to Rieko Ioane, who returned the favour before Reece traded passes with Ardie Savea to complete an outstanding team effort.
