Referee appointments for Autumn Nations Series Week 2

Autumn Nation Series

Nika Amashukeli will be the man in the middle when number-one ranked Ireland host reigning world champions South Africa in the Autumn Nations Series on Saturday.

It will be the first time in five years that the two sides have faced off, with the Springboks looking to make amends after a 38-3 loss in Dublin back in 2017.

Amashukeli will take charge of the contest and will be joined by assistant referees Mathieu Raynal and Andrea Piardi, while TMO duties will be fulfilled by Stuart Terheege.

Elsewhere, Wayne Barnes will oversee New Zealand’s visit to Principality Stadium to take on Wales.

The All Blacks prevailed 54-16 when the two teams met in the Autumn Nations Series last year, with Wales looking for a first win over their opponents since 1953.

Karl Dickson and Gianluca Gnecchi will be Barnes’ assistant referees, with Brian MacNeice the TMO.

One of the first matches of the weekend sees Italy host Samoa at the Stadio Plebiscito, where Christophe Ridley will take charge.

Italy and Samoa have not played each other since two tests in 2014, which were split one win apiece.

Ridley will be joined by TMO Brendon Pickerill, with Luke Pearce and Katlil Harrison his assistant referees.

Meanwhile, Scotland will look to bounce back from a narrow defeat to Australia when they play Fiji at BT Murrayfield early on Saturday afternoon.

It will be the first time in four years that the two sides have played each other, with Scotland winning 54-17 back in November 2018.

Nic Berry is the man in the middle for that contest in Edinburgh, with James Doleman and Pierre Brousset acting as assistant referees and Brett Cronan taking charge of TMO duties.

The final match on Saturday sees France host Australia at the Stade de France in Paris, the first meeting in Europe between the two since 2016.

France and Australia contested three narrow contests Down Under last summer, and the hosts will be looking to make amends for a 33-30 defeat in the decisive Test in Brisbane last July.

Jaco Peyper is the referee for this one, joined by TMO Tom Foley and assistant referees Ben O’Keeffe and Craig Evans.

Sunday’s sole match sees England and Argentina start their Autumn Nations Series campaigns when they face off at Twickenham.

England prevailed when they last played Argentina at the 2019 World Cup, and it has been 13 years since the Pumas prevailed in a Test between the two.

Refereeing this one is Andrew Brace, who will be aided by assistant referees Frank Murphy and Pierre Brousset alongside TMO Marius Jonker.
