France No.8 Gregory Alldritt played a starring role in France’s stunning 40-25 victory over New Zealand in Paris, their first in the capital since 1973.

France came out of the blocks and led 24-6 at half-time, but New Zealand closed the gap to 27-25 midway through the second half, before France pulled away again to hold on for an historic victory.

The victory was made even more remarkable considering how many of the French team were playing the All Blacks for the first time, with just five of the starting line-up having previously faced New Zealand.

Alldritt was one of those facing the All Blacks for the first time and said: “It was a wonderful night tonight, for lots of us it was our first game against the All Blacks.

France claim impressive win over the All Blacks

“It was a dream for us and we just played and played and gave everything we had, and in front of a crowd like this, it was awesome tonight.”

A capacity crowd at the Stade de France certainly played their part in France’s big win, something that Alldritt recognised.

He added: “During all the games they were backing us, this stadium, full 80 thousand, it’s awesome and thanks a lot to all the fans.”

This match was viewed by many to be the curtain raiser to the 2023 Rugby World Cup, where France will host New Zealand in the opening match.

Alldritt acknowledged the importance of this win, but played down its importance with regards to the World Cup, admitting it will be a very different New Zealand team in two years’ time.

“Yes of course, the World Cup is in two years, and I’m sure it will not be the same New Zealand and we will not be the same team as well, we need to keep improving, keep working, but we’re going to enjoy tonight,” said the back row forward.
