Ireland secured second place in Group A as they bounced back from their defeat to England to overcome Georgia 23-10 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Billy Burns opened the scoring for the hosts on his first start, providing a supporting run for Chris Farrell before darting through the gap and cross the whitewash after nine minutes.

The Ulster man added the extras and a further penalty to increase his side’s advantage but Georgia struck back with their first try of the tournament just moments later.

Tedo Abzhandadze added the conversion and the gap was reduced to three but another Burns penalty and Hugo Keenan’s score gave Andy Farrell’s a 20-7 lead at the break..

Ross Byrne and Abzhandadze traded penalties after the restart but despite Ireland’s best efforts they could not shake Georgia as they secured a meeting with Scotland next weekend.
